The Criminal Records Act is the federal legislation that governs the maintenance, creation and suspension of records related to the commission of criminal offences.

According to its preamble, it is an "Act to provide for the relief of persons who have been convicted of offences and have subsequently rehabilitated themselves."

The CRA contains sections related to record suspensions (formerly “pardons”), discharges and the disclosure and destruction of criminal records.
